Good Friday

On 29th March – Good Friday – St Leonard’s Church was full as we took part in their evening service. Joined by a good number of guests we sang Faure’s Requiem, almost from scratch. The Vicar, Revd James Hollingsworth introduced Julia from the Youth Counselling Project, the charity we are supporting at this event. He then spoke briefly about the Requiem’s focus on peace and freedom from judgement relating it to Jesus’ parable of Dives and Lazarus: Lazarus being mentioned in the final movement – ‘In Paradisum’.

After a prayer, the choir sang the Requiem under the baton of our Deputy Musical Director, Veronica Fewkes with our own ‘home grown’ soloists, Jeff Morton,  Heather Morton and Simon Foster. Many thanks also to Nick Houghton who accompanied us on the organ. Revd James then closed the service with a prayer and Blessing.

Thanks once again to the Vicar and all in the church for their help and support, and many thanks to all who generously supported the Youth Counselling Project, for which £940 was raised, which is amazing!
