Ailsa's Blog: Meet Our Members: Heather Morton
I began playing the piano at the age of six and soon realised my love for the instrument and music in general.
At the age of seventeen, I went to study at the Royal College of Music in London and did my ARCM in piano accompaniment followed by GRSM in teaching.
I then spent a year teaching in a girls' private school in Switzerland before returning to London, teaching in Tottenham for three years.
I joined the Service Children's Education Authority to see a bit of the world(!) and moved to Cyprus to teach. There I met my husband Jeff and we were involved in choirs, amateur dramatics (G&S) and were also part of a Medieval Music Consort, giving many concerts on the island.
After six years on the island, we moved to Germany and continued to teach for SCEA. During that time, three Music Centres were created and I became Head of Woodwind and Piano in Gütersloh, travelling to various schools in the area to give instrumental lessons.
On retirement, Jeff and I moved to France where we joined various choirs in and around Limoges. I became Musical Director of the local choir for some years and also acted as accompanist whenever needed.
We moved to Seaford in November, 2019 and joined Seaford Choral Society in January 2020, just before COVID!! Since then I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of SCS and hope to sing with them for many more years.
