Ailsa's Blog

Ailsa KatonaIt has been suggested I start a blog for our website and as I know you have all led rich musical lives that would interest our members, I’d like to interview and profile you.

Pour encourager les autres, herewith some of my memorable, musical memories.

My proudest moment was when my daughter achieved Gershwin’s clarinet glissando at her primary school concert. Moreover, when I was at school, I was lucky enough to sing Bach in Winchester Cathedral.

I learned to play the viola badly and attempted classical guitar but that was more to do with the fanciable teacher than perfecting my flamenco technique.

When young, I loved Simon and Garfunkel and my favourite singer is still Ella Fitzgerald. Gareth Malone is my musical hero because alongside Steve’s Zoom rehearsals and Petroc Trelawny, he got me through the pandemic. As for favourite performances, Die Fledermaus at Glyndebourne ranks pretty high but Zimbe with Seaford Choral takes a lot of beating.

You get the idea.

So when I approach you at rehearsal with notebook in hand, please don’t go the other way.
