My Musical Life

I have sung in different choirs for many years now and I cannot imagine not singing. Joining SCS was such a good way to meet people, having only just moved down from Norwich knowing hardly anyone in Seaford. There is nothing like singing together to bring a sense of achievement and belonging.

My grandfather was a singer as were other relatives and my mother was a very fine violinist who only now as she turns 101 is sadly unable to hear the music that was such a vital part of her life.

As a child I would listen to her playing Beethoven violin sonatas with friends and what impressed me most of all were the beautiful harmonies. To think that Beethoven could only hear much of his work in his mind or imagination.

Reflecting on harmonies, another great interest of mine is creating colourful fabrics using felt and embroidery. I love the harmony in colour as well as the notes we sing.

Our choir is very friendly and welcoming and we know how important it is to welcome newcomers, especially if they are nervous about joining a new group and let's face it, we have all felt some anxiety at the prospect of starting something new. We have a tea break halfway through the singing which is a good way to get to know us and for us to get to know you.

There is no audition and when I first joined 8 years ago, there are always stronger singers to stand beside if that would make you feel more comfortable. Even after all these years, I prefer singing near a stronger voice, whether Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass. Recently I changed from Alto to Soprano and some very versatile experienced singers change happily when asked, depending on what we are singing. So please think about joining us and of course you can 'try before you buy'.

We look forward to welcoming you.
